Exploring the Charming Town of Rennes

Welcome to Rennes, a picturesque town in the province of Brittany, France. Although Haley, a local resident, was not available to guide us, we set out to discover the highlights of this beautiful destination on our own.

Impressive Churches and Historic Sites

One of the first things that caught our attention was a stunning church on our map. It was even more impressive in person than we had anticipated. Although we didn't manage to go inside, we marveled at its beauty from the outside. As we continued our exploration, we stumbled upon other historic sites and charming streets that added to the allure of Rennes.

The Culinary Delights of Rennes

Rennes is known for its exceptional culinary scene, and we were eager to taste some of the local specialties. As we roamed the streets, we were delighted to find a restaurant and tea salon that caught our interest. We decided to sample their specialty, the macarons. The flavors we tried included chocolate mint, violet, and rose.

  • Chocolate Mint Macaron: Although our team member wasn't a fan of mint chocolate, they surprisingly enjoyed this macaron. They rated it four out of five macarons.
  • Violet Macaron: The flavor of this macaron reminded us of lavender, but it had a more artificial taste. It received a three out of five macarons.
  • Rose Macaron: This macaron had a thicker texture and a distinct floral flavor. While some found it enjoyable, others felt it tasted too much like flour. It received mixed reviews and was rated three out of five macarons.

In addition to macarons, we couldn't resist trying out a local favorite - crepes. We discovered a creperie that specialized in both savory and dessert crepes. The savory crepes are made with buckwheat flour, giving them a unique brown color. We tried a galette, which contained sausage, potatoes, mushrooms, cheese, and cream. The combination of flavors was heavenly, and we unanimously gave it a five out of five macarons.

Discovering the Christmas Market

Our visit coincided with the Christmas season, and we were thrilled to stumble upon a Christmas market. The festive atmosphere, adorned with colorful lights and decorations, added an extra touch of magic to our exploration of Rennes.

A Taste of Local Cider

We couldn't leave Rennes without trying the local cider. Although we were surprised to find out that we were supposed to bring our own bowl to drink it from, we managed to enjoy this unique beverage. The cider had a mild fizz and a refreshing taste, earning a favorable rating of 4.5 out of five macarons.
